Norwegian Wood – Haruki Murakami (1987)
January 2011
My lovely girl bought me this for Christmas and although I’ve only just started it, I think I’m going to enjoy it.
I’ll let you know if this is the case once I’ve finished it….
Well I’ve finished it and although it’s not my typical book, I did thoroughly enjoy it.
It’s a slowly unfolding story set in late 1960′s Japan, involving average student Toru Watanabe and his relationship with the two women he falls in love with. One, Midori is obsessed with sex whilst the other, Naoko has a few mental issues to sort out before she can commit to anything.
As I say, not my usual kind of thing at all, but it’s so beautifully written and evocative, that it’s an absolute joy to read and highly recommended.
